Tequila Casa Dragones

Tequila Casa Dragones

Casa Dragones (NOM1489) launched in 2009, co-founded by Bertha González Nieves - the first woman certified as a Maestra Tequilera by the Academia Mexicana de Catadores de Tequila - and Robert W. Pittman, the MTV co-founder and iHeartMedia chairman. The two met at a party in New York City and discovered a shared entrepreneurial spirit and love of tequila.

The name is rooted in Mexican independence history. Casa Dragones is named after the Dragones from San Miguel de Allende - a cavalry led by Ignacio Allende that helped spark the Mexican War of Independence. González Nieves chose the name to pay homage to the rebellious spirit of that cavalry, which helped win Mexico's freedom in 1810.

Production:

  • Agave: All expressions use 100% Blue Weber agave sourced from the lowlands of Jalisco, within the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. The volcanic soil is rich in silica and potassium and contains obsidian lava rock, which naturally aerates the ground for root growth.
  • Rather than the traditional process of roasting piñas in ovens and crushing them, Casa Dragones sends raw, unroasted agave to a diffuser, which extracts starches from the shredded agave using hot water, then distills multiple times in a column still and runs through an "ultra-modern" filtration system.
